In exclusive MBP Intelligence polling done with Pollara, we found that the vast majority of Canadians still need persuading on national interest projects

Key Points:

  • Most Canadians do not fall into the decisive “Builders” or “Process Followers” categories, they are instead “Persuadables” who sit in an uncertain and fluid middle.
  • Persuadables do not behave like an average of the two extremes. On both environment and Indigenous engagement, they lean clearly toward process and obligations.
  • But on labour,  Persuadables lean against mandatory unionization unless it is clearly explained and communicated to them.

Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney is announcing another tranche of projects being referred to the Major Projects Office for possible designation as national-interest projects under the Building Canada Act. It is also expected that within a matter of days additional details may be shared about next steps on Canada’s climate competitiveness strategy and how that intersects with Alberta’s objectives for a “grand bargain” that can build a pipeline.
